Michael Beharie’s music sits at the imagined intersection between sound system transmission, folk, and free improvisation. As guitarist, vocalist and producer, Michael is equally dedicated to traditional songform and genre non-compliant hybrids of acoustic and electronic music. Beharie’s recordings have been released by Astro Nautico, Mondoj and Shinkoyo. In addition to his solo efforts, Michael has toured and recorded with Zs, Teddy Rankin-Parker and Greg Fox. He has performed at festivals including Le Guess Who, ReWire and Art Basel Miami, and at NYC venues including The Kitchen, Issue Project Room, Knockdown Center and MoMA PS1. More recent collaborations include the project Bow and Arrow with Lea Bertucci, and Audience Plant, an ongoing project with Ryan Trecartin, Ashland Mines and Aaron David Ross that was presented at Aspen ArtWeek 2024. Michael regularly composes original music for film, with recent efforts including a score for Diane Severin Nguyen’s film In Her Time. He lives and works at his home in Upstate New York.
